FIVE!!

Yesterday was the Boy's fifth birthday. He is so excited to be five. When he woke up he immediately stretched out as much as possible on his bed. Then he asked "Did I grow overnight? I'm FIVE now. I must be much bigger!!" Of course I told him he was.

This birthday made me a bit wistful. Even though I love the boy he is becoming, I so miss how much of the "babyness" he has grown out of. He still loves to cuddle and give hugs, thankfully. Plus, there still is a bit of that cherub look in his face. He's turned into such a character.

Here are a couple pictures from our day. Those are cupcake cones. I had never made these before, but even though a couple exploded(!) in the oven, they were delicious. They taste better than they look. They boy was thrilled!

July already

I can't believe it's already July. We've been fairly busy here the last week or so. Some of the things we've been up to are marathon games of Go Fish and Memory. We use a marvel comic book character memory game to play both. The Boy would play these games non-stop if we let him. Sometimes we throw in a game of "Old Maid", although I'm not sure if that is the politically correct term anymore.

We've been baking loaf after loaf of fresh bread. This is by far the best book I have come across when it comes to ease of baking. The Boy knows the recipe by heart, and makes it himself now. I throw it in the oven for him, of course.

One of the more exciting things, besides my Husband finally catching up to me in age next week....he'll be 30, is our upcoming trip to Walt Disney World. I'm really not sure which member of our family is more excited. The Boy is a bit nervous about Cinderella after seeing a picture of her in a mailing we received. He'd prefer we stay FAR away from that so called Cinderella, apparently.

FOUR!

It was a busy day for the birthday boy, who is now FOUR! He had many plans of what we should do for his day. Simple sounding to most, they mean a whole lot to him.

We had to have the special flower necklace:Lei, not real of course. Lots of candles for his birthday cake, which was "Coconut Heaven Cupcakes" from my extremely tattered copy of Vegan with a Vengeance. He made the cake with me of course!

We spent the rest of the day playing with some new gifts, preparing one of his favorite dinners again from Vegan with a Vengeance, and of course much time in the back yard playing and digging in the mud. We also had a surprise visit from Bubba in the evening with a gift that has magically incorporated Spiderman and mud digging.

It was a fun day for all. This morning though? Apparently he was thinking it might still possibly be his birthday. In which case 5am sounds like a great time to get up and start the day. So, I'm drinking from a pot of my favorite coffee, writing this and spilling crumbs all over the computer from my all time favorite muffin recipe: "The Best Pumpkin Muffins" from, you guessed it: Vegan with a Vengeance.
